The VermiDigest by BioFiltro
November 2024
Greetings from BioFiltro! We’ve been wriggling around this Fall, enjoying the leaves and our worms!
New Installations
Follow Our BioFiltro Family Expansion
Olive Mill Pilot in Hopland, CA
We are thrilled to welcome our first olive mill into the worm family. When BioFiltro comes across a new waste stream, we will often deploy a pilot unit to test our system first. This olive mill and winery now has one of our Wiggle Rooms, just in time for olive harvest!
Custom System at Winery in Napa County, CA
We are overjoyed to have our first custom sized system in Napa County! This beautiful winery is now home to 1,600 square feet of worm beds to clean up to 3,300 gallons per day of process water. Our first samples show 100% removal of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), 96% removal of Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and 92% removal of Total Nitrogen (TN). Go worms!
BioFiltro News
Conservation Innovation Grant Progress
Back in 2023, BioFiltro in collaboration with UC Davis and the University of Vigo, was awarded a 5-year USDA $1.6M Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG). We will use the grant to study the impact of vermicompost application on 12 farms, 6 in California and 6 in Washington, on a variety of crops. We will be looking at a variety of soil health indicators, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from soils, and completing an economic analysis and LCA of vermicompost use. The farms are almost all selected. We are still looking for a few annual crop farmers to join this study. Reach out to info@biofiltro.com to see if your farm qualifies. We cannot wait to see how this exciting study goes!

Hosting SAI Platform's Dairy Working Group
This past month, BioFiltro hosted SAI Platform’s Dairy Working Group at O’Neill Vintners & Distillers. We showed them our largest vermifiltration system by volume, as well as how our technology works. A hands on approach to the experience allowed us to better explain our vermifiltration process and the day was a success!
