The VermiDigest by BioFiltro
July 2025
Greetings from BioFiltro! This summer, we are spotlighting how worms are turning waste into worth, from cleaner water on a dairy farm to greener footprints in the vineyard.

Featured in Ag Alert: California Dairy Partners with BioFiltro

We are proud to share that BioFiltro’s work at Alberto Dairy in Stanislaus County was recently featured in Ag Alert, highlighting how our vermifiltration technology is helping California dairies transform their wastewater into a sustainable resource.
In the article, journalist Vicky Boyd explores how Agueda’s family partnered with BioFiltro to install California’s largest vermifiltration system to date. The system treats over 1.7 million gallons of wastewater per day using millions of red wiggler worms to significantly reduce nitrogen, phosphorus, and methane emissions. All while producing reusable water and vermicompost to boost soil health.
This project represents our next-generation BIDA® system that uses less concrete to deliver the same worm-powered system engineered for greenhouse gas avoidance, nutrient recovery, and operational simplicity. We are honored to see BioFiltro’s impact recognized in the broader ag community and excited to keep delivering scalable, regenerative infrastructure for dairies, food processors, rest stops, and beyond.

More Worms in Wine Country

We are excited to welcome another Napa Valley winery to the BioFiltro worm family! Just in time for harvest and crush season, our newest on-site vermifiltration system is fully commissioned and ready to clean up to 1,000 gallons of winery process water per day.
The system keeps water where it belongs: on-site. In just a few hours, our BIDA System removes contaminants that could be harmful to groundwater and transforms this wastewater into clean water for safe land application, all while using minimal energy and natural processes.
Even better, every 2-3 years, the system’s wood-based filter media is transformed into approximately 36 cubic yards of vermicompost, a nutrient dense soil amendment the winery can reuse in their own vineyard and offset their compost or fertilizer costs.
