Water-Smart Dairy Video from Dairy Cares

The dairy industry is taking into account the increase of water scarcity. In a recent video, Dairy Cares highlights how California dairy farmers are adopting water-smart practices. Specifically, the increased popularity of worm beds and vermifiltration for improved manure management. The video showcases BioFiltro’s BIDA system at Alberto Dairy and more. A Sustainable Solution for Wood Chips

In the heart of California’s Central Valley, the practice of replacing old orchard trees has historically led to the burning of wood, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and environmental harm. However, with the introduction of BioFiltro, a sustainable solution has emerged. BioFiltro can repurpose wood chips from almond, walnut, and other orchard trees, transforming them into filtration media for water treatment systems in local dairies, food processors and sanitary wastewater. This innovative approach not only mitigates waste but also enhances sustainability, turning a potential environmental problem into a beneficial resource. As BioFiltro continues to grow, hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of wood from old orchards are being repurposed, showcasing a remarkable example of circular economy in action.

CMI Orchards BIDA Solution

Organic Produce Network features a story on CMI Orchards, detailing how they have taken strides to focus on regenerative agriculture. One of their solutions is our BIDA, our worm-powered solution. Check out this excerpt from the article and click the link to read it!

“Our systems aren’t experimental—they’re established, proven and already delivering results at scale,” she said. “Biofiltro, the company behind our worm-farm filtration and vermicomposting systems, has been in operation for many years, and the biochar reactors we use are also built on mature, well-tested technology.” -CMI Executive

New Agreement with Western Placer Management Authority

BioFiltro Pilot Unit at WPWMA to treat Landfill Leachate

BioFiltro is pleased to announce the signing of a new construction and operation agreement to treat landfill leachate from Western Placer Management Authority using its vermifiltration technology.

The project delivers a compelling economic advantage, with capital costs approximately 60% lower than conventional technologies and an estimated 78% reduction in operating costs compared to traditional treatment systems, according to WPWMA.

During pilot testing, the system succesfully removed contaminants to meet stringent discharge limits for BOD, TSS and Nitrogen. The proposed solution also incorporates a Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) polishing step, which will further enhance effluent quality by addressing UV Transmittance (UVT) requirements.

Construction will start soon, and bioFiltro’s Wastewater Treatment plant is expected to be fully operational by August of this year.

World Ag Expo & Henry and Rick Garcia Dairy Tour

Recently, the BioFiltro team traveled to Tulare, CA for the 2026 World Ag Expo. During the expo, our Livestock Lead, Sanjar Taromi, directed tours of our vermifiltration system at Garcia Dairy. At the expo, the Western United Dairies booth displayed BioFiltro’s worm-powered work. Our team had a great time showcasing our Garcia Dairy system and tackling how the BIDA system can be a solution for dairy manure management!

CLFP Expo 2026

Along with attending the World Ag Expo this February, the BioFiltro team had a booth at the Food Processing Expo. Returning to the Safe Credit Union Convention Center in Sacramento, the expo was a great way to discuss our systems with the food processing industry. Thank you to all who stopped at Booth #400 to chat with us about our worm-powered solutions!

Peltier Winery Field Day

Earlier this month, Peltier Winery hosted a field day focused on regenerative farming. BioFiltro’s VP of Product, Guillermo Tagle, brought his extensive vermicompost knowledge and led a tour of the worm-powered system at Peltier.
